Nursery Essentials

Crib

The durable Stokke Sleepi Mini grows with your baby till he/she is 10 years old.

One of the most important items in the nursery is, of course, the crib. Brad and Melody have chosen the Stokke Sleepi Mini ($939). Melody says, “It grows along with the child, all the way from newborn to 10 years old.” How this is achieved is through two extension kits, converting the cot to the regular Sleepi ($1,499) and then to the Stokke Sleepi Junior. Prices for the extension kits cost up to $590 to convert to the Sleepi, and $249 for the junior extension.

Additionally, this compact crib has adjustable heights to accommodate baby Eva’s growth, and can be moved from room to room if necessary using the lockable wheels. Included in your purchase is the Mini Mattress and drape rod. Complete the Stokke crib with accessories such as the bumper ($119), protection and fitted sheets ($65 and $35 to $49 respectively), and of course, the gorgeous canopy ($129) .

Changing Necessities

A dresser organises all baby Eva’s essentials, while the changing table on top lets Melody and Brad easily change her at a comfortable height.

Another nursery essential is the Stokke Home Dresser and Changer ($799 and $379 respectively), which allows them to be able to change Eva’s diapers at a comfortable height. Melody says, “What’s good about this is that everything is within reach, so my eyes can be on the baby at all times.” Additionally, the roomy dresser ensures loads of space for baby necessities like diapers and clothes, and the soft-closing drawers shuts on their own with just a soft push, so your baby won’t be disturbed.

For Eva’s casual home outfits, the couple have opted for Cambrass long-sleeved rompers ($17.90). These 100 per cent cotton rompers regulate babies’ temperatures so they can sleep comfortably. One important addition is mittens, as babies may accidentally scratch their faces as their nails grow. A sustainable option is Cambrass Tencel Gants Mittens ($9.90).

Melody's Feeding Basics

Other nursery essentials include the Cambrass Nursing Pillow, which can be used during and after pregnancy.

Great for both nursing and pregnant mums, this Cambrass Nursing Pillow Denim Pink ($119, last piece at Tanglin Mall) can be used in a variety of ways. Melody says, “During my pregnancy, I used this pillow when I’m actually sleeping, or when I’m sitting up on the sofa. It gives good support to the back.” After delivery, the pillow is the perfect height to rest her arms while breastfeeding the baby. It can also support baby Eva

For nursing baby Eva, Melody chose Hegen bottles. This local brand features a teats that closely mimic mum’s natural breast to minimise nipple confusion. Other highlights include the anti-colic air vent system, protecting your baby from stomach upsets and an ergonomic, square design. Mums can also easily pump, store and nurse their baby using the same container to minimise any spillage.

Aside from easily cleaning these bottles, to prevent infection, Melody also got an additional 4th Gen Haenim UV steriliser and dryer. Made in Korea, connect and control these via your smartphone. Newer functions include smart storage, clean alert, and turbo dry. All items are regularly sterilised every two hours, and it can sterilise up to 16 bottles. With the 99.9 per cent lab-proven sterilising power, both breast pump parts and baby bottles could be sterilised. Only the Dual OSRAM UV lamps need replacement in a year.

Bathing Your Little One

Easily bathe your baby in the Flexi Bath, which can be folded and brought on your travels.

Brad and Melody also chose the Stokke Flexi Bath ($75) for bathing their daughter. Melody says, “It’s actually a very portable and compact bathtub for the newborn.” Because it’s so compact, it’s ideal for bringing along for your travels overseas or when visiting your parents or in-laws. Additionally, it features a heat sensitive drain plug. This turns pink when the water temperature is too hot, black when it’s too cold, and purple when the temperature is just right. Of course, you should double-check by using your hand and adjust if needed.

Accessories include the newborn support ($30) to hold up their babies’ bodies while bathing them. To make changing and bathing your baby more efficient, use the bath stand ($99) in the nursery. Hence, you can easily remove the dirty diapers, wipe down any messes and then bathe them in the same room, and at a comfortable height so you don’t have to put strain on your back by bending over. Suitable for newborns up to children aged four years old, you can then repurpose the bath as a toy or sand box.

For the car seat, this is great for children from birth to 12 months old, or from 40 to 75cm.
